About Us

Situated in scenic downtown Grand Haven, the Rosebud has been a bar and restaurant in one form or another since 1934. Since then it has been a popular spot to dance to live music and get a cold beer. The Rosebud also has great food, mixed drinks, and friendly service. In addition, we offer catering for your business or party and a space for private parties in our separate dining room.

Our Building's History

The building that the Rosebud now resides in was built in 1872. Originally built as a post office/ Elk temple the building was the mail center for the city for many years. The post office was later moved and the building became a local candy shop and ice cream parlor that offered sodas and sundaes for a nickel. In 1914 "The Soda Grill" owned by Tom VanWessem was opened. Later in the decade the Soda Grill was sold to Harold and Arnold Smith. In the Late 1920's the Soda Grill was sold to Adeline Clark who opened "Candyland". Around 1934 the "Green Mill Tavern" was opened by Guy M. VanLopik. The Tavern was the first to serve cold beer and sandwiches.

There has been a bar at the address ever since. The short walk from Story & Clark piano factory made the Green Mill a popular end of the day gathering place for local factory workers. The building was later called Gay Haven, Smitty's bar, the Pickaroon Saloon, Shipp of Fools, and Googenheimers. In 1992 Jim and Martha Adamczyk purchased the building and named it the Rosebud of Grand Haven Inc. In 1998 a massive facelift was put on the interior and exterior of the building. Now the Rosebud is an established dinner spot and bar boasting a fine menu with steaks, seafood, and pasta.
